As one of theMarvel Cinematic Universe ’s newest zep , the duty to save the world ( presumably ) will fall to Shang - Chi in director Destin Daniel Cretton’sShang - Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings . But unlike many of Marvel ’s other upcoming project that have antecedently - established roots in the MCU , Shang Chiis set to introduce a slew of new lineament whose lives have n’t exactly revolved around the Avengers .
While Shang - Chi ’s title give you a pretty big hint about the clump of Marvel ’s amusing lore that the picture explores , some of the major doubt about the story have revolved around what exactly this incarnation of the Ten Rings are / is , consider that a terrorist group by the same name was antecedently dropped way back in Iron Man 3 . It always seemed a stretching that Ben Kingsley ’s Mandarin would end up factoring into Shang - Chi in any significant way , and in a new featurette for the forthcoming film , the cast explains a piece more about how Shang - Chi ( Simu Liu ) ends up becoming a pivotal soma within the MCU in his own rightfield .
In the featurette , Kevin Feige explains how the Ten Rings have in Iron Man 3 have a direct connexion to the organization at the center of Shang - Chi . Tony Stark may be beat and exit , but Shang - Chi further explores how the Avenger was once force to germinate weapons for the Ten Rings , and how Shang - Chi has to allot with the consequences . The picture also foreground a few shots that badger Shang - Chi ’s grotesque / magical elements , but it stops just short of explaining whether the weaponized rings that Shang - Chi and his Father-God Wenwu ( Tony Leung ) scrap with are advanced ( Stark ) technical school , or if their power is mystic in nature .

Even though Phase 4 is meant to be about ushering in thenew guard of hoagie , it ’s good to see that Shang - Chi ’s being given a tale that will establish him as a proper presence in the world who ’s up to the challenge of put things decent when citizenry — including the Avengers — drop the formal . But with that all squared away , now the interesting affair to face ahead to seeing is just how tightly crafted and impressive a standalone narration Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is when it rack up theaters on September 3 .
