Britney Spears’ anticipated new memoir is set to his bookshelves later this year.
News of the memoir and reported $15 million book deal with Simon & Schuster was first reportedin February 2022, three months aftera judge terminated Spears' 13-year conservatorship.
In October 2023, Spears opened up about the new memoir toPEOPLE via email in a cover story. “Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me,” she said about the book and her life now. “After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life.”

The memoir promises to reveal “for the first time her incredible journey (and) strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history,” according to a press release from Gallery Books, and “illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”
The Woman in Meis “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” the press release continues.
In exclusive excerpts shared with PEOPLE, Spears details various highs and lows in her life and career. In addition to talking about her conservatorship, which she saysmade her feel like a “child-robot,” she also talks abouther strained relationship with her father.
“Feeling like you’re never good enough is a soul-crushing state of being for a child,” she writes. “He’d drummed that message into me as a girl, and even after I’d accomplished so much, he was continuing to do that to me.”
