As NASA ’s Dawn missioncontinues to circle gnome planet Ceres , we ’re receive better and more detailed images of the planet ’s mysterious bright spots . And yet , science is no closer to understanding what ’s urinate this far - off planet gleaming .
The latest images were taken by Dawn in its 2nd mapping orbit , some 2,700 knot above the surface . That was close enough to glint inside the crater view above , and catch yet more confusing images of the promising spots . The big spot ( which looks unnervingly like a elephantine alien Pacman ) is around 6 nautical mile across , with the lead perpetrator being a contemplative material like salt or crank . ( 6 miles is also big enough for an alien city . Just saying . )
Dawn ’s imaging pass have also revealed minor hatful on the major planet ’s Earth’s surface , draw close among Ceres ’ many crater , arise about 3 international nautical mile eminent .

In a few weeks , Dawn will move into a lower orbit around 900 land mile , arrive sometime in former August . Hopefully , that should give us a dependable idea of what ’s cause the lustrous point on Ceres , and we can embark on taking appropriate steps to arm humanity .
