Legion has eat up its first time of year on an even higher note of hand than where it started , and this show started pretty damn high . The instalment took its fourth dimension , but it grow into a gripping , terrifying , and gorgeous hour of television . And what ’s more , it ’s set up a fantastic follow - up .
In “ Chapter 8 , ” David ( Dan Stevens ) gets some highly delinquent peace of mind … literally . Oliver Bird ( Jemaine Clement ) and Cary Loudermilk ( Bill Irwin ) lay up a machine that will finally elicit Amahl Farouk , i.e. the Shadow King , out of his psyche for goodness . They ’re temporarily delay by last week ’s cliffhanger , when the Interrogator and his minions looked to finally have the mutation apprehend for commodity . But David ’s exponent are unpaired , and he turns all the guards into a gargantuan shrieking human race tug . It was actually kind of hilarious , if it was n’t also terrifying . Can you imagine being smack dab in the middle of that ? Butts everywhere .
With the mound of safety otherwise occupied , David and his crew take the Bourgogne - garbed Interrogator into their hold . They enlist his aid in getting Farouk out of David ’s psyche , but he ’s not really interested in work with a buncha stinkin ’ mutant . He might be a total peanut , but I ca n’t fully pick him for being hesitating , considering they nearly killed him . astonishingly , the episode start with a longsighted collage of the Interrogator ’s convalescence , yield the audience a much - needed perspective on the “ other side ” of the war . The Interrogator is n’t just some faceless minion in a gargantuan man tower . He has a loving hubby and a marvellous son , with a penchant for destroying sport that get in his way . It helps put up the Interrogator , and Division 3 , as a long - standing part of David ’s life sentence , for adept or worse .
At first , the Farouk Extraction ( as I ’ve taken to foretell it ) seems to be going rather well . The synapses connections are being severed as Lenny ( Aubrey Plaza ) is hook from David ’s mind and memories . But Syd ( Rachel Keller ) is n’t convinced . Lenny tell her the only direction they could get free of Farouk would be if he left of his own spare will . Otherwise , he was going to lodge himself in David ’s judgement and vote out him . And that ’s exactly what happens . Syd , making the forfeiture we all bonk was coming , kisses David and take on the Shadow King into her own body . At first , this did n’t make sense to me . Syd ’s power is in throw consistency , so would n’t that mean she ’d now be inside David , and Lenny would be the only one inside her ? But , since Syd and David are already link up , and Farouk is a parasite with unequaled king of his own , the exclusion seems to work in this case .
So , Syd is now glowing with the fire of a thousand yellow demon middle , but her sovereignty as the Shadow Queen is temporary . In pops Kerry Loudermilk , who ’s stayed outside Cary for for a while in stubborn reply to him “ abandoning ” her in David ’s psyche . Why is she there , when she ’s supposed to be watching the Interrogator ? It looks like she ’s planning on stopping Syd , but allow ’s be honorable : Her only intellect for run away into that way is so Syd can concern her and have the Shadow King bound into her body . There ’s no other way to explain it that does n’t leave alone her looking like a total dumbass . She literally abandons the Interrogator in his cell … with the door astray open .
Kerry respond to her newfound power the way any teenager would , in that she now start out kicking her sidekick ’s ass . She also goes after Ptonomy , in yet another appearing that amounts to a 10 - moment cameo . Kerry the Shadow Queen escapes and get quick to GTFO , only to be stopped by David , floating down from heaven like an angel of justice ( also , overnice nod to X - Men with the spinning rooter behind him ) . David and Kerry meet on the battlefield of powers , only for David to emerge victorious . Meanwhile , Oliver ’s been chill in another elbow room , working on keeping the Farouk Extraction Machine operational . At one point , he find his memory , saying only one word : “ Melanie . ”
Shit . That only mean one thing .
Yep … Lenny leave Kerry and enters Oliver , and the two of them escape . Nooooooooooo , not Oliver .
We close on David and the gang recuperate from their latest battle , as Oliver and Lenny head off to greener pastures … presumably to expect for whatever Lenny was yelling about finding in the last episode . David secern the Interrogator that the warfare call for to halt , and that they necessitate to act together if they want to finish Farouk once and for all . The Interrogator kind of mussitation his agreement , but the puzzle at the end indicates that what he really intend to say was , “ Fuck no . ” In a post - credits teaser , David is scanned by some weird drone matter and enrapture inside it , screaming for assistance as he ’s led away . Who is apprehending David ? Is it the hug drug - gentleman , want to recruit the Professor ’s boy , some young force we have n’t seen before ? Or is it Division 3 trying to lastly take ascendence over their in style compulsion ? I in person cerebrate it ’s the latter , but there ’s no elbow room of knowing until Legion comes back for time of year 2 . It has been regenerate , so hooray !
When Legion started , the question it first guess was , “ How does it make you experience ? ” We were all David , skin to understand what was going on inside his head . Was David crazy , or were his struggles merely a side effect of his major power ? At the end of the journeying , we ’ve found out it was a short scrap of both . Now that the Shadow King is gone , David and we are free to grow , to retrieve out who he is and how far his might can take him . Assorted Musings:
The montage about the Interrogator ’s recuperation was one of the most surprising opening the show has had so far , and I thought it was fantastic . I loved see a different side of this character , and Division 3 altogether . I will let in I ’m curious why they spend so much time showing his Bourgogne courtship and wolf - topped cane , since that did n’t remind me of any known character from the comics .
Those guards eventually starved to death inside that man tower .
Kerry ’s continued grievance against Cary seemed a bit contrived for plot convenience , and all it take was one demonic encroachment to get her to interchange her mind . really , that would be somewhat traumatic , so I do n’t charge her for running back to Cary after that .
Ptonomy was the most gaunt fibre of the season . He was a prominent figure in the first twain of instalment , mainly in how he helped navigate David ’s computer memory . But the second they did n’t need to do “ dream dives ” any longer , he disappeared from the show almost solely . It ’s actually pretty stinky , because there was so much more they could ’ve done with him . I ’m hoping he gets more to do next season .
Legion has done a great job with music collage , notably Lenny ’s terpsichore number in “ Chapter 6 , ” but the usage of “ Speak To Me / Breathe ” by Pink Floyd during the Farouk Extraction was simply providential .
I have intercourse Lenny ’s outfit during the car drive with Oliver . Her looking at change because she ’s now inside another individual , and she also altered her pose to better beseem him . And even though it does n’t make a lot of sense that Farouk would still search like Lenny , since Oliver hardly saw that figure , I do n’t care because it means more Aubrey Plaza .
Can we take a second to sincerely acknowledge how shitty it was that Oliver got taken over like five minutes after he remembered Melanie was his married woman ?
I have so many questions on that giant ball pilotless aircraft that sucked up David in the post - credits tease . Where did it come from ? Who made it ? How is it power ? How can you trap a mortal in a testis ? Is this from the comic , or another novel invention for the seires ? It might take the award for one of the weirdest and inexplicable season - end teasers ever , the right way up there with that consequence Chris “ explode ” Leo in the time of year 5 finale of Charmed . Yep , I made a shitty Charmed reference .
