So as Daniels was shooting Upload , he was at the same time developing and writing scripts for Space Force . By May 2019 , he ’d end shoot one show and started the full writer ’s room for the 2nd . Space Force was shoot in the fall of 2019 , just before work begin on season two of Upload .

And though Space Force is establish on a literal - life thing , actual veridical life was n’t very helpful during the show ’s development .

“ When we picked Space Force , there was n’t a Space Force yet . And we ’re still come out ahead of the first launch , ” Daniels read . “ We reasonably much had to think about it before they did . “ It did n’t occur to me that the fact we were doing a show that was not The Office would make masses angry , Daniels said , half - joking , half - not . “ For me , it was just ‘ Oh , I loved exercise with Steve and I acknowledge from experience how great he is both as an actor and as a originative partner . ’ So I just jumped at it .
