During a chat with local children, the parents of three connected with a group of elementary school students. Gracie, 11, from Howardian Primary School, said Kate asked her what subjects she enjoyed. “I said I like maths and like our teachers teaching us. And she said I could teach [Prince] George some maths!”

While math is surely on the schedule, Prince George is many years away from A-levels, which are rigorous subject-based tests typically used to qualify for college in the U.K.

During the busy visit to Fitzalan High School, William and Kate connected with sixth-form students (the American equivalent of 12th grade) pursuing both A-level and vocational studies, plus the English for Speakers of Other Language provision, and got to see some of their lessons. The royal couple traveled to Wales on Tuesday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush’s arrival in London, and the October start of Black History Month in the U.K.

“They’ve shone a light on a community that has been written out of history. It is a light that cannot be extinguished. These elders will take this to their grave,” Professor Uzo Iwobi exclusively tells PEOPLE about the excitement around having the Prince and Princess of Wales visit the elders at the Grange Pavilion.

“They will never forget that one of the biggest leaders of their nation remembered them, traveled all this way and said thank you,” adds Iwobi, who is the founder of Race Council Cymru and oversees the work of Windrush Cymru.

Prince William and Princess Kate’s latest outing marked their first joint appearance since it was confirmed that the Princess of Wales will not join her husband at the upcoming Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony. PEOPLE understands that Prince George has school exams that week, and his mother will be at home in Windsor to support him.

The news came after Prince Williamofficially confirmedhe would travel to Singapore for the special event during the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York City on Sept. 19.

Earlier that week, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis headed back to the classroom at theLambrook Schoolin the Berkshire countryside. Though the siblings returned together for their second year at the prep school, Kate and William didn’t release aback-to-school portraitto the public. That’s because the Prince and Princess of Wales treat school as a private area of their children’s live so they can grow up in as pressure-free an atmosphere as possible.

Last year, fans got a glimpse of the Wales family walking into preview day at Lambrook, where George, Charlotte and Louis enrolled as new pupils following the family’s move from London to Windsor.
