Tom Cruisemay be jetting to the skies again soon.

The third film in the hit series could feature some familiar names fromTop Gun: Maverick, as the film’s co-writer Ehren Kruger is reportedly writing the script for the film, according to the outlet. Sources also toldThe Hollywood ReporterthatJoe Kosinski, who directed the second film, is also being tapped once again to direct.

MultipleMaverickstars previously confirmed that there have been talks of a third installment.Miles Teller, who plays Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in the film, revealed in July 2022 that he and Cruise had “been having some conversations” aboutthe possibility of another movie. Though the actor, 36, noted at the time, “It’s all up to Tom.”

Glen Powell, who played Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin, also told PEOPLE in August 2022, “There’s definitely been conversations [but] it’s above my pay grade.”

“It’s really up to Tom. It’s up to [producerJerry Bruckheimer]. It’s up to all the powers that be, but if they call me back to Miramar, I’ll be there,” he added.

It is also Cruise’s highest-earning film to date and wasnominated for six Oscars, eventually taking home theaward for Best Sound. It even became Paramount Pictures’ No. 1 movie ever in Japan, as well as Skydance’s.
